The ViRAL project will create a set of virtual reality (VR), 360 degree-movies (360) and augmented reality (AR) training resources for adult education in a context of safeguarding the memories of their local industrial heritage. Specific VR, AR and 360 resources to support the adult learners will be developed based on own materials from the Archive partners (i.e.,StAD STAW, MSO, COVUNI and ADPTN.

Examples of resources to be provided are: A tailored 3D major VR production about Dornbirn, Austria – this production will be based on an historical canal journey to engage local community in a/several factory setting in the 19/20th Century and offers a realistic and immersive simulation of a 3D environment. It will be created using interactive software and hardware to generate the realistic images, sounds and other sensations that simulate a user’s physical presence in this environment that could not be simulated with any other technology than VR.

Several 360 interactive videos using easily accessible equipment and programmes; 360-degree videos, also known as immersive videos or spherical videos, are video recordings where a view in every direction is recorded at the same time, shot using an omnidirectional camera or a collection of cameras. During playback the viewer has control of the viewing direction like a panorama; Several AR productions using free apps and programmes. AR is a live direct or indirect view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are "augmented" by computer generated perceptual information. AR layers digital views/photos or animations over real world sites or objects, therefore bringing the past alive. For example: an AR application over a heritage blueprint of an airplane can bring the object to life digitally flying around the scene. Or an AR photograph can overlay the old building (which no longer exists) over a newbuilding.
